Felix - A Yorkie X Papillion Mix

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge July 22nd, 2010

Little, loving Felix was rescued from a high kill shelter where he had ended up as a stray.  Even though he was not looking his best, his wonderful loving, gentle personality won us over and we wanted to give him a chance at a new life.  He had obviously not seen the gentler side of human kind or been given appropriate veterinary care in his short three years of life.  We took him to our Vet and started antibiotics for his skin infection and had a blood panel and urinalysis done to see how things were working on the inside.  While we waited for the results we started him on a nutritious meal plan and supplements.  Unfortunately his blood and urinalysis results were not what we wanted to hear and this little fellow was suffering and slowly dying.  He blood and urine showed extreme levels of calcium oxcide.  The skin condition, fish breath, trembling, uncoordinated movements, spasms towards his back end and convlusions were a direct result of this diagnosis.  With no cure, and Felix in pain, we had no option but to release his little soul knowing he had been loved by us if only for a couple of weeks.  To some he wasd a haggard little dog but to us he was a little dog who appreciated everything we gave him - especially unconditional love.

Nina
Adoptees/NinaFlowerBorder.jpg
3.5-lbs, 2 year old Teacup Female Spayed Chihuahua

Miss Nina was abandoned in a little cardboard box at a PetCO store.  She was very scared and shivering in fright when the Assistant Store Manager, Amy called our rescue to see if we would take her in.  After our Vet checked ehr out, she seemed healthy enough to undergo a spay, dental and vaccinations.  Her bloodwork did not show any health issues and she was recovering well from her surgery.  She had been bred a lot in her short little life as her utererus was paper thin and very flaccid from giving birth so many times.  Unfortunately,  she must have been exposed to parvo and a week after her surgery she came violently ill and within 12 hours passed away.  If Nina had been given puppy shots she would have never had to have given her life to such a horrible illness.  She was no doubt a back yard breeder dog who had never been given good nutrition or veterinary care - just seen as a way to make money.  We wished we could have given you a new life.

Scarlette

Cross the Rainbow Bridge Gracefully 10-9-2009

Miss Scarlette, a tiny 3-lbs little Chihuahua was rescued from a high-kill shelter, severely emaciated, with an extreme case of demodex mange and in need of being spayed.  A dental was also in order, even though she was only 18 months old.  Due to poor nutrition, her lack of nutrients had caused some dental disease during her short little life.  Through all of this adversity, she had a sunny, happy and loving personality.  She went through her dental and spay surgery well.  She showed absolute delight in having the itching stop from her mange, by very generous  donation from Fort Dodge's Southern CA Representative of Promeris, Fort Dodge's product that has excellent results in the treatment of demodex mange.  Unfortunately, Scarlette's renal systems was shutting down from a congential defect.  She began to exhibit signs of this disease very rapidly and after consultation with our Veterinary expert, and an utrasound, blood and urinalysis, Scarelette's only option would have been a kidney transplant.  Knowing she was in pain and it woas only going to get worse, the decision was made to allow her to cross the Rainbow Bridge gracefully, and with dignity.  She stole many hearts during her short time as an OCPoundhound.  She is missed......

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge 8-23-2009

Corky, the Corgi mix was not with OCPoundhounds very long but he stole a lot of hearts with his cheerful demeanor and continuously wagging tail. His Foster-Mum adored him and he accompanied her to school, where he was a hit with the children, regardless of the fact he was totally blind. He became very ill very quickly and was helped over the Rainbow Bridge with dignity so he did not have to suffer. We loved you Corky....and you stole a piece of everyone's heart who knew you.. rest in peace....

Sherman

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge June 2009

Sherman was rescued by a Good Samaritan after being hit by a car on a busy street.  More than likely Sherman was out looking for a romantic interest as he was an intact male and feeling the first blossom of romance at about 8 months of age.  The car accident caused a head injury, which initially caused him to loose his eye-sight.  Apart from this initial disability, Sherman seemed to be in good spirits and was adapting to a world without sight and enjoyed his trips to the Bark Park.  He was given large amounts of anti-inflammatory medications and pain managenet medication but slowly the swelling from the injury began to cause other complications, which caused major neurological problems.  Sherman lost his desire to enjoy life and ended up very depressed, so the decision was made to humanely assist him over the Rainbow Bridge.  Always in our minds was that if he had been neutered he would not have been out on the road to end up being hit by a car, which ended his short little life.....
